// EVOLUTION: 22/5, 24/5, 24/7

The traditional 6.5-hour trading day is dissolving. Major exchanges are racing to expand operating hours to capture global liquidity. The bottleneck: centralized clearing requires a daily 1-2 hour pause for corporate actions, margin calculation, and trade-date advancement.

NYSE Arca 22/5 (Late 2026)

ICE will extend NYSE Arca to 01:30 - 23:30 ET. Trades executed 21:00 ET to midnight carry the next calendar day's trade date. Pending SIP consolidated data feed upgrades.

Cboe EDGX 24/5 (Dec 2026)

Near 24x5 trading on EDGX: 21:00 ET Sunday to 20:00 ET Friday with daily 1-hour pause (20:00-21:00 ET). SEC proposal submitted March 2026.

CME 24/7 Crypto Futures (May 2026)

Regulated Bitcoin and Ethereum futures/options 24/7. Weekend trades (Fri evening to Sun evening) carry Monday's trade date. Driven by record $3T notional in 2025.

ICE Tokenized Securities

ICE developing a digital platform using tokenized securities to bypass DTCC batch limitations. Theoretically enables true 24/7 trading with instantaneous atomic settlement.
